ANIMATION - The Carbon Cycle

BONNi & BO - Billboards
thanks to a big advertisement campaign by the STIFTUNG BONNER KLIMABOTSCHAFTER ("Foundation Climate-Embassadors Bonn") BONNi & BO-posters can be seen in large billboards along the main roads at 35 locations all over bonn this week.

LOVE HOWEVER YOU PLEASE - Poster Campaign
a few months ago i drew a series of posters for a provocative campaign on homosexuality called "LIEBE WIE DU WILLST - 'LOVE HOWEVER YOU PLEASE'" for the city of giessen, which aims to inform teenagers about the extensive service available in town - and to inform society about the problem of exclusion and condemnation. unfortunately, most responses are in german, but here is the link-list anyways:
DKP QUEER published an interesting article on the topic; there is a PODCAST , and the JUNGE LIBERALE speak in favor of the campaign.
as would be expected, it is the reactions from the christian front that take the biscuit:

BONNi & BO - Germany Fest
the STIFTUNG BONNER KLIMABOTSCHAFTER was present with BONNi & BO and free comix about climate protection during the huge germany fest in bonn.
here is yours truely next to mr. Reske, the director of the bonn citizens' foundation (BÜRGERSTIFTUNG BONN), and his assistants mr. Scholz und mrs Gutheil.

BONNi & BO - Colorful letters
i recieved more mail: a whole pile of colorful letters from class 3A of the GOTTFRIED KINKEL ELEMTARY SCHOOL in oberkassel, which i visited some days ago to draw BONNi & BO! and it seems i can soon give up my job, because the kids of class 3A are almost better comic-book artists than i am!

BONNi & BO - Class visit 3A Gottfried Kinkel Elementary School
today i visited class 3A of the GOTTFRIED KINKEL ELEMTARY SCHOOL in oberkassel, and after drawing BONNi & BO together, we had an exciting talk about the correlation between deforestation in the amazon and cheap meat in german supermarkets.

BONNi & BO - Winner of idea contest
the winner of the BONNi&BO idea contest is a young girl called funda who visits the third grade at the CARL SCHURZ ELEMENTARY SCHOOL in bonn-tannenbusch. her eyes grew huge when mr. reske, the director of the bonn citizens' foundation (BÜRGERSTIFTUNG BONN), and i handed her an original drawing of BONNi&BO.

BONNi & BO - Great letters
i could hardly believe my eyes when i opened my mail today:
each child of the class 3C of the GOTTFRIED KINKEL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL in oberkassel wrote me a personal letter with some great drawings to thank me for my visit and short drawing class! the nicest quote: "actually i only like soccer. now i also like to draw bo!"

today i visited class 3C of the oberkassel elementary school, to draw BONNi&BO with 20 enthusiastic little environmentalists, and to brainstorm some ideas for the next edition of the comic.

BONNi & BO - Comic Number 1
i created and drew a comic about "bonni", the lion from bonn, and his new friend "bo", a polar bear, for the BONNER KLIMABOTSCHAFTER-foundation.
this comic will be published in the BONNiLive-magazine, which is distributed to all elementary school students in bonn in an edition of 13.000 four times per year, and on the WEBSITE of the foundation.

ORO VERDE - Because we are worth it: Comic 4 Rainforest!
in cooperation with ORO VERDE and their programme BECAUSE WE ARE WORTH IT! i have planned and orchestrated a comic-project-week about the topic of rainforest deforestation and cheap meat for the enthusiastic students of class 5b of the theodor-litt-secondary-school in bonn-endenich this week.
the result is this colorful comic, a collage of drawings and costume-photos, which the kids then handed out in town, thereby educating passers-by about the relationship between rainforest-deforestation and cheap meat (click the image).

ORO VERDE - Because we are worth it: DIE BO(O)TSCHAFTLER
as part of ORO VERDE's programme BECAUSE WE ARE WORTH IT! i visited the project group "DIE BO(O)TSCHAFTLER" in the 9th grade of the august-macke-school in bonn to give them a little crashcourse in "drawing rainforests" today. the kids will paint self-built canoes - and i am curious to see the final results!

AMPIBIAN ARK - Art-platform
on several occasions in the past i have supported AMPHIBIAN ARK, a worldwide programm for the protection of endangered amphibians, with illustrations.
now amphibian ark is offering a new PLATFORM for interested artists to present their work.
part of the money gained from projects commissioned via this platform will be donated to the organisazion.

BEETHOVENHAUS - Crashkurs on drawing comics
in the beginning of this week i have given a crashcours on drawing comics as part of a childrens' project in the BEETHOVEN HOUSE BONN (and did learn quite a lot about bonn's most famous son myself on the occasion!). today i visited the small vernissage to see the finished works of the talented participants of the course.

CHARLES DARWIN RESEARCH STATION
i am happy to be able to make a small contribution to the fascinating work of the CHARLES DARWIN RESEARCH STATION on the galapagos with my illustrations. when visiting the station this year in march i was duely impressed by the breeding and succesful conservation of the giant land tortoises.
the first drawing will decorate the park-guides' news board in the visitors' center, and more are to come.

ANIMATION - Ohne Geld bis ans Ende der Welt
every day from may 31st to june 4th, at 19:30 o'clock, episodes of "ohne geld bis ans ende der welt"
("with no money to the end of the word") by MICHAEL WIGGE
will run on ZDF neo (or you can watch them all in sequence on june 5th at 14:45 o'clock).
michael travelled with no money from berlin to antartica and filmed himself doing so. whenever the camera was not at hand or filming was prohibited, my animations fill the gaps.
the entire series will also appear on dvd soon, on sale for example at AMAZON.

my clone is called EDUARDO MEDEIROS, lives in porto alegre in brazil and draws very beautiful illustrations and comix.
of course i immediately got in contact with him, and we agree on this: THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!!

shortly before our return from quito back to germany we managed to meet with ein treffen mit GONZALO RIZZO. amazing, how much you can learn from a good teacher in a 30 minutes flash-crash-course! gonzalo produces a lot of beautiful animations, some even for ecuadorian TV - and to make matters better, he is also a rather nice guy!

this weekend i gave a workshop about the medium comic to 15 very interested and rather talented ecuadorian participants, among them unter anderem WILO, GONZALO RIZZO, CARLOS GRANJA ROBALINO, DARIO GUERRERO and the other creatives of ¡ELÉ!-magazine, and many others with exciting ideas and much creative potential.
i would be happy to some day in the future work together with these great artists!

it is done: 20 posters about alexander von humboldt's journey through south america for an exhibition in quito, ecuador, comissioned by the german embassy of quito. i will fly to ecuador for the opening night of the exhibition, will give some workshops there and then do a documentation of an ORO VERDE project in SARAYACU. and after that, i want to go to galapagos, snorcheling with iguanas!

the front page of the ahrensburger zeitung shows an article about rüdiger nehbergs project against female genital mutulation and his human rights organization TARGET. for the GOLDEN BOOK, which nehberg wants to hand out to every mosque in the world, i have done four illustrations, one of which can be seen in the ARTICLE.

bei seinem herrlich lustigen aber auch ergreifenden und tränenrührenden vortrag in köln hatte ich endlich gelegenheit, rüdiger nehberg einmal in person zu treffen
für sein GOLDENES BUCH, welches er im rahmen seines feldzuges gegen die weibliche genitalverstümmelung in jede moschee der welt verteilen will, habe ich vier illustrationen gemacht, die auch analphabeten die nachricht "genitalverstümmelung ist gegen den koran" vermitteln sollen.

oft fehlt mir ein täglicher ansporn, zu zeichnen, und so habe ich beschlossen, etwas, das mich jeden tag nervt, in etwas zu wandeln, das mich jeden tag beschäftigt (und amüsiert). so entstand die idee, spam in cartoons umzuwandeln. das ergebnis gibt es auf ASPAMADAY.

war am wochenende auf der frankfurter buchmesse, um SCOTT MCCLOUD mal live zu sehen. beeindruckend, wie viele inspirierende ideen in einen kopf reinpassen.
ausserdem hatte ich das glück, so tolle menschen (und comiczeichner!) wie MAWIL, FIL und NAOMI FEARN kennenzulernen. sehr nette leute, auch.
didi und stulle (von fil) kann ich jedem empfehlen, der mal wieder tränen lachen will.
jetzt bin ich total motiviert, mehr comics zu zeichnen, und hab keine zeit. murphy's law... :(- 4. oktober 2007
ich habe einen experimentellen comic geschrieben und gezeichnet und freue mich über euer ehrliches feedback. das konzept heisst "PANOCOMIC", und das sichtfeld dreht sich beim lesen immer 360 grad im kreis. es gibt also keine schnitte im konventionellen sinne.
